I'm feeling much more calm writing this post on a Saturday afternoon. Eli is napping and Micah is out with Dad. As I was thinking of what to write this morning I was feeling pretty sorry for myself. The past week, Micah has finished his extended school year at pre-school and is gearing up for the fall starting Kindergarten. We are one week into our month long break and it is tough. I am so very thankful for the pre-school staff that have invested so much time into my little man and have helped him make so many positive gains. We love the routine of school; especially Micah. Unfortunately, I don't have the resources to keep him entertained as much as he'd like. So, were making due.
I often wonder what my life would be like without having a special needs child. Would I change it? I do have to say that yes, I wish he was completely healthy. It would be easier. However, I know that God is strengthening me day by day. He has been teaching me patience over the past 5+ years. You'd think I'd have it down by now, but I don't. So all in all, I am okay with what the Lord has handed me. It is difficult, but I know it was His plan.
I often watch other moms at Target, restaurants, sporting events...etc., and I am jealous. I admit it. I am so jealous of their ability and ease to leave the house without the constant worry of disruption or the physical burdens of carrying a 40+lb child while 7 months pregnant. What would it be like to go to a movie with your kids, or out to eat and not have to feed someone. I am praying for complete healing for Micah, so I trust that one day we will get there. That day will be sweet when it comes.
Micah actually has been doing awesome lately with walking and such. He completely surprised me when he walked most of the tractor museum today. A span of about 20 mins, not a lot and I needed to help direct him but it was cool!

Micah is starting to walk!
I think I have been waiting for about 3.5 years to write this post!!!!!!!!!! My friends from IL and AZ know me and my desire for our little man to start walking and to show some type of independency. While we aren't anywhere near independency we are in the initial sages of comfortable supported standing and labored steps.
From the first moment I held Micah I knew God had a plan for him and that he was a special little man that God had his hand on. A wonderful sentimental poem that Micah Grandma Hill received from God the day before he was born is as follows.
"Know that I am taking care of Micah
He is mine and I have a plan and purpose for his life
To walk before me strong and healthy in all his members
He is mine, I knit him in Crystal's womb
He is a mighty man of God
I have my hand on him and I will guide and direct his steps for my purpose."
This is helped me keep my focus on God and realize that his plan for Micah is so much more that learning to walk. He has such great things planned for him.
Micah is such a hardworking and determined little guy. Independent walking could be 3 months-3 years off. We are trusting God to keep our eyes focused on him and continue to pray for complete healing for our little man.

Healthy Kids
I attribute a lot if not most of my children's health to chiropractic care.
Since having children of course we wish that they wouldn't be sick at all. Being sick does unfortunately happen. There are so many things that we can do to help our immune systems everyday. We happened to do a lot of probiotics and vitamin d3 in addition to our weekly chiropractic care.
Since regular chiropractic care, I can count on my hand or fewer the number of times my eldest Micah has been sick in his five years of life. He has had a few ear infections (before finding regular chiropractic) and 1-2 bouts of the stomach bug. Of course we have had a few colds. But nothing that hasn't healed itself completely in 1-2 days. Eli maybe has had a runny nose every now and again. Knock on wood, I know! I know that there are some kiddos that get a cold and it keeps coming back and it keeps them down for over a week and then spreads to the entire family, that use to be us. Those are the type of families I cannot wait to help.
I can't wait to start our practice one day and be able to show others that preventing instead of treating our illnesses is the preferred method!

Planes Trains and Automobiles! old post!
We had a great weekend as a family of four! We made sure to stay busy and do lots of fun and exciting things to make good use of Matt's off weekend. It started out nice and calm Saturday morning with a lazy wakeup (6:45am for Micah) and us as well. Eli likes to sleep till 8. We did breakfast as usual and decided to head to the Pima Air and Space Museum. We live very close to it, however, in all 3 years living here we've never managed to go. So we decided late in the morning around 11, very close to nap time. We ended up having a blast! Micah thoroughly enjoyed gazing at all the huge planes that hung overhead. He even got to touch a few.
There was a carousal as well, but it really went too fast and made me dizzy...Micah was not a fan riding the horse either. When daddy picked him up and just held him, he tolerated it. However, it wasn't a favorite.
We even enjoyed icecream!
They had indoor and outdoor exhibits of planes. We even got to see an old Airforce one, that Kennedy used! I have to say that as girly as I am, I really enjoyed myself with my 3 guys. We headed hope for a late lunch and naps.
When naptime was over we ended up getting a visit from Matt's parents (which is always nice). Matt didn't want to do our usual errands to Costco or the mall so we decided to go down to Old Tucson. I had never been there and it had been a while for Matt's family, so we packed up our double and headed down to the Wild West! It was jam packed with fun things. We were able to see a little dancing and singing show, some donkeys, ate some BBQ and even rode some exciting things!
Matt Micah and I rode together on Micah's first choo choo train! He was a little hesitant at first, but he ended up loving it! We sat on benches during the 7 minute train ride and rode around the little town seeing some fun old building and remakes of what a Wild West town would look like.
Then Matt and Micah and grandma got to ride on a gocart! It was on a little track so it wasn't too hard to steer. When Micah saw that wheel, he knew just what to do! This was clearly his favorite activity of the day. He had his hands on the wheel and was ready. I saw them go around once and I had a sneak a ride with my little man as well. Here's a pic of them getting ready to go...

30 year Reflection
Here I sit on my thirtieth birthday enjoying some quiet time during nap time. Matt got home early from school to surprise me for my birthday, which was nice! We enjoyed a date night last night and went to a new neat restaurant and ate some awesome burgers! My friend was super sweet and brought me some wine and essential oils and sat for free! She know me so well...:)
I was really kind of not wanting to turn thirty. It mark a new era of course. Not being in my twenties anymore. I do still feel young, but I am only getting older. I have so much to look forward to in the next ten to twenty years and more.
It becomes more and more clear that the path we have chosen has been truly etched out by God for us. I use to look at people who were finished with this path and think, wow, they have it all! And some did, but some didn't! Here we are, following our dreams going to Chiropractic school and trying to help lead others onto a path of health and wellness. That in and of itself is wonderful and I am so excited to share this wonderful alternative with others and help change lives. Then, I started thinking...wait we have more! We have our faith and our Savior, Jesus Christ! How much greater can it get. We have this awesome message of redemption and salvation that truly makes me feel like we do have it all. We are going to be able to offer so much to others! God has given us so much and I can't wait to start giving back!

Facebook Fast!
I've never really been any good at fasting. See, I love food. I'm sure most people do! I just don't like the idea of restricting myself from something. Especially something that I love. Something else that I decided to try was a Facebook fast.
What occupies our time and what we think about is very powerful. I really needed to wake myself up and realize what is important to me. It is important, that I form true and real connections with people and work on the current relationships that I do have. Here I am on day 4 of no Facebook. I completely deleted it from my phone for the time being. We also don't have a desktop, so that isn't another option. At first, I was bored. Then I started to get lonely. Even a completely material media connection (if that makes any sense) was giving me some sort of companionship and making me believe I was engaging in real friendships. So now I had to really think of what was important to me. I didn't want to be staring at my phone and looking at other peoples lives and relationships as often as I was. I'm not sure of when I will add Facebook back in, but it has helped me to reach out to true relationships rather quickly.
I will be starting a weekly bible study at my church this week and am finally going to be starting up with Mops soon. Being a stay at home mom can actually be extremely lonely. I am doing a very important job, but I am sitting on the floor all day long, changing diapers, feeding little ones and "talking" with them. All in all, I am really pleased that I decided to take a break from Facebook and shift my focus for a while. It is definitely helping me dig deeper into Gods word!
There are many great aspects of Facebook and I know I will use again, probably soon. However, I am hoping that this will in a sense dull my minds taste buds for the "instant media friendship" and help me to see out true relationships.
Oh, one more thing I did notice during the time was how much happier my kids were! Especially my oldest. He normally has a really tough time going to bed at night. For the past 3 nights he hasn't put up a fuss at all. I think my face was glued to a screen way too much. It could totally be coincident, but I think that could've been the reason. So, one thing I will try when I do add Facebook back in is to try to only be on my phone during nap time and after the kids go to bed. The first day Eli asked me where my phone was, since I wasn't clutching it. And then he stopped asking! Try it for a day or two and see how it goes for you.

Chiropractic School
Here I sit in my quaint Iowan living room. A lot has changed over the past year or so. My husband was an extremely hardworking manager. Hours were long and holidays were rare for our family. After moving to IL from AZ we were excited for a new adventure. Looking back I laugh, because we had absolutely no idea what the Lord had in store for us.
Our oldest has special needs and throughout his 4 almost 5 years of life and countless doctor appointments and therapies we have found that the most beneficial therapy of all was chiropractic. We were on a hunt for a wonderful family chiropractor in IL as soon as we moved. Micah was used to getting regular adjustments, as were we. We quickly found a great group of young and talented pediatric chiropractors.
Micah and the family received weekly care and Micah was the special one and often got adjusted 2-3 times a week. We began seeing marked improvements with Micah. Some days it was immediately following an adjustment. We then were introduced with the whole lifestyle of wellness. We couldn't just continue getting adjust and completely forget about two other core components of wellness. We needed to start moving and start eating clean.
We began our wellness lifestyle over a year ago and with a few glitches in the road haven't looked back. Then one night Matt and I were having a conversation in our kitchen. We were talking about how we were living this healthful lifestyle and how it was lining up with all areas of our lives. Matt was worked to the bone. He was amazing at what he did as a retail manager but it didn't reflect our views. So...Matt decided he wanted to pursue ChiropracTIC!
I was as excited as ever. I knew that we would begin to embark on an amazing journey. Matt has such passion and drive and I know he will be an epic Pediatric Chiropractor, changing many lives!! This journey will be difficult, believe me, it is. However, I know the end result will be so worth it! This son of ours may have special needs, but he is the happiest little guy ever, making huge strides. I truly believe that regular and therapeutic chiropractic care helps him live optimally and that is what we want to help every child, special needs or not, to do!

Life with 2!
Its been nice to enjoy some cool weather here in Arizona. It's been consistently very chilly in the mornings. Around 20-40 degrees. We are now experiencing some warmer weather as of yesterday. It was a beautiful 74 degrees. Matt and I were talking about how it is the "perfect" temperature. It was unbelievable. And to think, some of my friends and family are back in the midwest experiencing much more brutal temps. I may have to join them at some point :).
We keep pretty busy around the hill household with zoo trips with friends, play dates and now preschool! Micah has started preschool at an awesome place that is just perfect for him. He goes 4 days a week for 3 hrs a day. He's been there about 2 weeks so far and is doing well. We've had a few off days, but those are to be expected for any 2 year old. We are hoping he continues to adjust well and can see the development of the other kiddos and learn from them. He is really progressing with his speech lately. Although, it's not always consistent, we've even gotten a few sentences from him. Like, "I wanna snack" or "I wanna to go to go." This is a huge step for Micah and we are super blessed that he is progressing. He seems very close to getting himself to sitting as well, and has become quite the effecient commando crawler.
Time to brag on my other little man. Elijah Matthew! Oh my goodness, what a little sweetheart he is. He has gone from a fussy newborn to a delightful little baby face! I just could eat him up every minute of the day. He loves to look at his brother. He just watches him and starts cracking up at something Micah will do, and we aren't sure what's so funny, but clearly is halarious for him. He is at that perfect baby faze that when you smile at him his whole face lights up. He has already rolled both directions and looks like he's right on track for baby development.
More pictures to come later. It was a bit tricky to figure out this whole google plus thing.

27 Weeks
Finally got around to a short blogpost on my pregnacy so far. Things have been going pretty good. Very easy so far. Hopefully it stays that way. Baby #2, is doing great and we are so excited to meet him in a few more months. I'm feeling very big and wondering if I'm going to have skin that stretches enough this time around. I am constantly feeling like I am busting at the seams and there is no more room.
You know those games you play at baby showers with a string to guess the pregnant mothers belly width? Well...I kept mine from Micah's shower which was when I was 32 weeks pregnant with Micah. I just wrapped it around my belly and it is a perfect fit! So...I am 26.5 weeks pregnant and showing like I'm about to pop!
Here are a few pics of my progression so far:

Night away...
Matt and I had the luxury of spending a night away from our little man, Micah. I have to admit that for the first several hours...all I could think about was Micah and how much I missed him, and thought that he was misses me! Matt and I went to a local resort in town and enjoyed walking around the grounds while we waited for our room to be ready. Then we headed upstairs to our room and changed to our swim suits and went to the pool(s)! We were a bit cold at first, the temperature was only mid 70's. And though the pools were heated, it was still freezing when you got out. They had a lazy river with intertubes that we made a few passes around before heading to the regular pool. We had a great time goofing around in the pool together. I persuaded Matt to swim several races (which I won all, even pregnant!) and he enjoyed attempting to throw me elegantly into the air ;).
Next, it was time to get ready to head out for dinner. We were thinking of staying at the resort for dinner, but 30 dollars for a dish is too unrealistic and unappealing for me. We got all dressed up and went to go sit outside before we left. We enjoyed an appetizer together at the resort! Yummy nachos and a virgin strawberry margarita! Yum!! We finally decided to head out to dinner to a Mexican restaurant called El Charro. It was really yummy. These days, I get so frustrated with myself because I have no room to eat. It really is crazy to me because I'm only 15 weeks...but I find myself full after 1/4 of the meal. It was so yummy I wanted to continue eating, but I stopped myself before I got sick :).
The next morning I was hoping to sleep in and my hubby tells me it was 7 am and he was going to head down to the fitness center to workout and I should keep sleeping. Well...I couldn't. Instead, I got up and did some devos and relaxed. When Matt returned he went downstairs to get us both a Starbucks! Then we packed up the room and went to a really neat "down home" french breakfast restaurant in the university part of our town. It was a cool experience.
When we finally got home, I was greeted at the door by grandpa and my little man! It was sooo sweet to see him again. He really had a tough time without us this time. I think as he gets older he realizes that we're his mom and dad and he likes us best! :) He just cuddled with me a bit on the couch and when Matt held him, he smiled and rested his head on Matt's shoulder. Micah is normally not the cuddler. We heard he had a great time traveling in the car to different shops with grandma and grandpa and got to bed at 830, normally his bedtime is 630 and was up at 630 when he normally sleeps 12hrs. Needless to say, he was definitely overtired and it showed tonight as he had difficulty falling asleep (1hr) tonight.
Overall, we really enjoyed our time together. But, we both missed Micah a lot and it was good to be home with him today. We look forward to 4 more days with daddy home!

Sabino Canyon and More!
We had such a great time going hiking in Sabino Canyon, AZ this past Wednesday. It was a 4.5 mile hike we made and my shins are really telling me how long that hike was. Micah enjoyed the stroll and the sites as did we. We stopped at a river and put his little feet in the water. (not appreciated by Micah at all) Here are a few shots from our adventure!
Micah and Matt...starting out :)
Finishing our first mile uphill. It was much harder than I anticipated...

Two Year Old
Micah is finally 2! I really shouldn't say finally, because I do really miss having my little one year old. I am very excited for what this second year will bring our family and little Micah. Matt and I celebrated Micah's birthday by going to the zoo. We had a great time looking at all the animals. I think Micah's favorite was the giraffes. Following the zoo, we headed over to our favorite lunch spot, Chipotle. After a long day we were all tired and remember that Micah didn't have a birthday cake or treat to celebrate with. So I quickly whipped up some chocolate chip cookies (SIMPLY) and Micah enjoyed his very own chocolate chip cookie.
We celebrated his birthday with some close family and friends the following Saturday. It was very low key, and I think Micah definitely appreciated that. Anyone who knows Micah, knows his favorite toy is a little tiger/lion toy. So instead of trying to attempt to make it myself I had it made on his birthday cake. I think it turned out pretty cute.
Micah was not a fan of that cake! In fact, he screamed when we put it on his tray.
We later found out it was simply the frosting on his hands he disliked so much. Last night, we gave some leftover cake to him after dinner without the frosting, and he loved it! He just doesn't like to get messy I guess. Overall, I say Micah had a great 1st year and we're looking forward to an even better 2nd one!

Big Boy!
I've realized that it's been about 2 months since I've updated the blog, but I haven't had much to report. The most recent change that has happened around here is sleep training Micah. It took about 3 nights total. However, not nearly as bad as I had anticipated. Now, we're working on naps, which are a little tougher. Mostly, Micah just fusses a bit at naptime before he falls asleep. At nighttime, he goes down without a fight or even a noise.
He also has weaned himself from nursing in the last week. That was honestly pretty rough for me, but I did anticipate it a little. Now we're just working on making sure he's drinking enough liquids and trying to find a type of milk that he likes.
Micah has been a busy boy lately with all of his therapies. We had 7 appointments just this week! Hopefully things will begin to slow down abit for us, becaue other things are sure replacing our time. This is also the last week that I have a one year old! I really can't believe, nor do I want too. He will be turning two in 7 days! I know this upcoming year is going to be a busy and growing one for him too! So I'll be trying to take this week slow and hold on to my little one year old as long as I possibly can... 168 hours to be exact!

Christmas Day
We had a great time celebrating Christmas with Matt's family this year. We went down to see them Christmas Eve and spent the night as well. Normally, we open presents that night, then snack and enjoy eachother's company. This year, we did things differently. With Mike's new wife Sarah, we decided to follow their families tradition of doing gifts in the morning. (This is what I was use to as a kid as well.)
Our night with Micah was a bit rough. He's enjoying midnight wakenings lately and it sure is tiring. It was nice to get to enjoy eachother's company and not rush through presents to get Micah to bed though. Here is a shot of Micah on Christmas Eve morning. Not extremely happy at how preppy his mommy dressed him.
Micah spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day pretty much lazin' about rocking with grandma or grandpa or me and listening to Opera music. Who new? He really does like music, but now really likes Andrea Bocelli! Or he was playing with his toys or his doggy.
We spent Christmas morning taking our time opening Christmas presents. It was fun seeing Micah enjoy new toys! One of his favorites is a truck that when you pull the string it shakes! (From Grandma Teichert) And a piano from his Grandma and Grandpa Hill.

He really did get much happier as the day went on though... See! ;)

Nap time is so peaceful!

Blurry shot of the fun!
I forgot to mention how much delightful food we enjoyed together. Mike really did a great job finding a wife. Especially, the fact that she is an amazing cook! We had delicious appetizer type foods and homemade wings Christmas eve and Steak and lasagna and homemade mash potatoes Christmas day. Oh, not to mention delicious French toast Christmas morning with homemade berry syrup! (Seriously, the best syrup I've tasted in my life!) Yum! Micah thouroughly enjoyed it all too.Thursday, December 1, 2011
Talkin' About Christmas
We just had a great two days off with Matt home. Micah is seriously a different kid when Dad is around. He's so much more mellow, calm, happy and silly. I wish he was home everyday with us!
We finally got around to shopping for our Christmas tree. After some debate on whether to get a big or small tree we decided on a real 5-6ft tree. It really is beautiful! Thankfully Micah hasn't taken much interest to going over to see the tree himself yet.
Micah has a new favorite word! It is "yes". He will actually answer questions for us now. If he wants certain things he will respond yes or not respond at all meaning (no) we assume. Its great to have a word that really can be used for communication now.

We also put up some decorative lights outside our patio. We sat Micah outside with us and he IMMEDIATLY crawled to the rocks and attempted to shovel handfuls of rocks into his mouth. Don't worry we did stop him. Then we tried to put him on our smooth flank stone and he proceeded to crawl to the grass and dig in dirt while he terrorized the dog.
Boys are truly boys from the beginning. I was talking to a friend about this and discussed our our two children are very different from eachother's. Hers being a girl, will play with baby dolls and strollers and mine likes to throw things, eat rocks and dig in dirt!

Family Zoo Trip
It really is time that we start taking advantage of this beautiful weather and going to the zoo more often. For the past few months or so Micah has actually been taking a notice to the animals. We know this because he gazes adoringly at them and giggles! Today we had the opportunity to enjoy one of daddy's days off and headed to our zoo.
Here is a picture of Micah and Daddy checking out the monkeys!
And of course blowing raspberries at the jaguars...
Here they are:
We had so much fun. We had the opportunity to see 3 lion cubs playing with their mommy. It was adorable. They got so close to the glass and Micah thought it was the funniest thing.
We're so lucky to have gotten 3 new baby cubs! We talked with a zoo keeper and he said they are slowing introducing the cubs to the daddy. They have been with him only 7 minutes at a time so far. I guess dad is stronger than he knows. Soon enough they'll be all together as a family.
I had a hard time getting Micah to pose with me...
He will of course pose with dad no problem
We had such a great time together at the zoo, we headed home to play. Micah is getting much stronger nowadays and is tolerating standing more and more. We still use his knee imobilizers because he doesn't like to lock his knees. A lot of the standing toys are meant for younger children and Micah is usually way to tall for them. I got an idea today to put some bed post elevators on one of his standing toys and it raised it a few inches and made it much more comfortable. He still doesn't love it, but it's better than not doing it.
Thanks for reading! Glad to share some new fun things with you all!

Fall discoveries
It was finally chilly this morning. Well chilly is 61 for Arizona now. I took Micah for a walk this morning and enjoyed snapping a few shots of him at the park adjacent to our house. You can just say, he's not camera shy!
Like this pose mom?
This slide looks fun!
Aw, mom, I know I'm handsome!
(Love the little head tilts!)
Lord help me! This boy is such a ham! I swear, every time I point my camera at him he's ready. Makes it easy to take some really good shots though. He had fun sliding down the slide with my help too!
My little guy is such a trooper. All the pictures of him at the park were taken this morning, and we found out that he has a double ear infection. A fever tipped me off, but look how happy he is still!
This next shot is a pic from when we went to the pumpkin farm with my MOPS group. There was only a handful of families there, but we had a really great time. Nonetheless, it was 100 degrees out, which definitely doesn't feel like fall weather.
He really wasn't quite sure how he felt about sitting on prickly hay, and really showed no interest in the pumpkins. But we had a good time as a family and enjoyed our morning out. Can't believe he'll be 20 months in 3 days...where does the time go!?

Fall is almost here!
Micah and I are enjoying the new cool weather that's been around this last week. We're pulling out new fall clothes and Micah is looking pretty spiffy!
Here he is looking oh so handsome with a new sit and stand toy we got second hand!
Some of the fun new things Micah is doing we we ask him to...
"Micah, where's your...belly..." "Where's your toeties...where's your feet?"
"What does a lion say?"
One thing that Micah thinks is particularly halarious...I was trying to teach him where his head was and he grabbed a toy and hit his head with it. Not thinking, I said "bonk!" And now when we say "bonk" he hits his head :)....oh, boys will be boys!

He only wanted to cooperate with the lion question :)
I've posted a video of this on FB before, but this is a picture of Micah "Praising the Lord"...I can't remember how it ever started, but he caught on quick and when we say Micah praise the Lord, he does this...

September Happenings
Just a few updates and pictures on Micah and us all...
We have been keeping busy with lots of errands, playdates and therapy appointments. Micah is growing all the time it seems! Here is a picture of our little guy trying to pull up on the couch. He just needs to figure out how to lock his knees and get more comfortable upright...
He still commando's all over our living room and is trying to get those knees up...but no luck yet. Here's little man in the tub playing. He's enjoying picking up cups of bath water and drinking it. It's definitely got to be under close supervision...he'll just keep drinking and then he may just get sick...
He loves playing with his toys! Here's a favorite...his play table!
Naptimes are difficult nowadays. He enjoys napping with mommy, but not on the bed...in his rocker! :(
Kisses for momma...
Lastly, here's one of Micah's most enjoyable activities yet... (terrorizing the dog) oh, I mean playing with the dog! :)
